The Top-10 Incidentally Fat Characters in Pop Culture

The Top-10 Incidentally Fat Characters in Pop Culture

Article by: Witney Seibold

It’s always bugged me that fat characters in movies and TV were never just incidentally fat. Either their fatness was an indicator of their comic, buffoonish gluttony, or it was an indicator of their wicked, cigar-chomping hedonism. And while the fat men were either buffoons or villains, the fat women had it even worse, being either greedy harpies or weepy wannabes.

There are a few glimmers of fat hope out in the world, though, and I wrote down a top-10 list for the good people at Geekscape.net outlining the ten best fat character from popular media that are incidentally fat. There are more than you think and the fat heroes are an inspiration for fat kids, as well as a more healthy look at the modern-day human form. You can read the article by following the link below.

  1. Wow! That was a spectacular read. I loved how you were able to concisely explain why Fat Albert was an important media figure, because god knows I never understood it.

Brilliant, thanks for putting your wit & exhaustive media knowledge to the task of dissecting this issue and bringing your findings to the Internet populace!

    • Thank you.

Now all I need to do is find ten incidentally gay characters. Or, harder still, bisexuals who are not devious or wicked.

      • Oh man. I read a scathing review of Laurell Hamilton’s Anita Blake series to that effect. Apparently all bisexuals are perverts (or Not Really Bisexual), and all gay characters are either villains or they need saving from the straight heroine.

Thank goodness I didn’t have high expectations of the series.
