Sid and Marty Krofft’s Saturday Morning Hits

Sid and Marty Krofft’s Saturday Morning Hits

TV review by: Witney Seibold

Sid and Marty Krofft were masters of their craft, and can fairly be counted amongst the deities of Saturday Morning Television. They may be known for their hugely hallucinatory fantasy programs (“H.R. Pufnstuf,” “Lidsville,” “Land of the Lost,” “Bigfoot and Wildboy,” etc.), and weird, weird colorful puppets (which may be counted as low-tech versions of the Muppets), but, more than anything, this was a duo that should be best known for their geniality and playfulness and idiosyncratic sense of humor.

I recently watched a DVD put out by Vivendi Entertainment, which collected single episodes of seven of the Kroffts’ shows, and wrote a review of it for the good people over at Geekscape. I gave a basic rundown for each show, and even included a few videos.

Enjoy it, and be sure to leave comments wherever you will. Read the review here:

  1. Conspicuously missing from this box set is “KAPTAIN KOOL AND THE KONGS,” the musical program which featured the “ELEKTRA WOMAN,” “WONDERBUG” and “BIGFOOT & WILDBOY” segments, featuring comedian turned SANTA CLAUSE director Michael Lembeck as the KISS-themed Kaptain and impressionist Louise DuArt as one of his band. It’s also missing the least-loved segment of the first season, “DR. SHRINKER,” which was ultimately replaced second season by “BIGFOOT & WILDBOY.” The show was later retooled for the Bay City Rollers, adding a segment where Witchiepoo from PUFNSTUF operated a hotel for monsters; the band frequently popped up in this particular segment

  2. I loved Electra Woman and Dyna Girl!!! Great memories!
