Film review by: Witney Seibold

Ah, “Grindhouse.” A pair pumped-up, action horror chase suspense films. Two films with scratches and missing reels (both cleverly placed to omit vital plot details). An entire drive-in double feature film experience, complete with fake trailers for other genre fare. Large chunks of narrative are deliberately missing, and the continuity is purposefully ignored, just to make sure the grindhouse experience is complete. While the film is not 100% successful (I’ll give you more in a second), the level of ambition involved in its making, and the obvious passion the two filmmakers have for the source material, reveal it to be an epic and wonderful film experience. I’m going to start this review with what I didn’t like about this curious Robert Rodriguez/Quentin Tarantino homage to the schlocky cheap 1970s exploitation movies. But rest assured, “Grindhouse” will likely be on my year-end list of the best films of 2007.
