Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark

Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark

Theater review by: Witney Seibold

So I got back from New York recently, and I was able to, thanks to a stroke of luck, get into see Julie Taymor’s new musical “Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark” for relatively cheap. I am now here, dazed, able to offer up to my loyal readers, a run-down on the experience. Strap in tight, though, ’cause things are about to get nutty. (more…)

The Top-10 Best Blooperheroes

 The Top-10 Blooperheroes

Article by: Witney Seibold

Superhero movies and TV shows are everywhere these days, and comic book culture is pretty much mainstream culture, where once it languished on shelves, and stayed in the back corners of the mass consciousness. Just as common as superheroes, though, are the hilarious offshoots of blooperheroes; the superhero spoofs that poke fun at the on-the-surface ridiculousness of the form. When I was a teenager, I did love me some superheroes, but I was just as drawn to the absurdist skewering offered by the character on this list. (more…)

Ranking the ’90s Kids WB Comedy Cartoons

Ranking the ’90s Kids WB Comedy Cartoons

Article by: Witney Seibold

I have gotten into several arguments with friends about which is superior between “Animaniacs” and “Tiny Toon Adventures.” This is one of those arguments that has no real solution, as everyone will have their own taste, but it’s just the right kind of argument for Geekscape, where picking apart the objects of our affection is a regular practice. These cartoons ware well-remembered by all, and giving the, compare-contrast treatment is an unexpected delight. (more…)

The Top-10 Weirdest Superhero Weaknesses

The Top-10 Weirdest Superhero Weaknesses

Article by: Witney Seibold

One of the few things I remember about The Green Lantern, mostly culled from half-forgotten memories of bad cartoon shows and playground gossip, was that, in addition to being able to control the color green, had a weakness to the color yellow. This seemed to me, even at the time, a weird, weird weakness to have. (more…)

Everyone’s had this experience: You’re in the middle of a blissfully unproductive summer vacation, playing with friends, organizing water balloon battles, and planning on which flavor of ice cream to buy, when you’re confonted by the horrifying and thudding sight of a Back-2-School-Sale sign. The Top-10 Fictional Military Forces

Article by: Witney Seibold

In honor of memorial day, a day usually set aside for honoring the soldiers of America’s wars, I came up with a list of fictional military forces for the good people at Geekscape. Thanks to cartoons and video games, a whole generation is intimately familiar with the ins and outs of military service, provided those military servies serve aboard space ships, fight aliens, or are equipped with special laser guns. (more…)
