Trash Humpers
Film review by: Witney Seibold
No narrative, no named characters, no scripted dialogue, “Trash Humpers” is the latest calculated affront from Harmony Korine, the filth autuer behind “Gummo” and “julien donkey-boy.” Like his previous films, “Trash Humpers” reveals Korine’s interest in the lowest dregs of low-class life, depicting, as it does, a group of decaying, insane, cackling, possibly homeless oldsters, running about the rural areas of Tennessee committing random acts of violence, vandalism, and the titular trash humping; yes, dear readers, the characters in “Trash Humpers” actually spend a lot of time grinding their pelvises against city-issue upright trash cans. Iron Man 2
Film review by: Witney Seibold
Jon Favreau‘s “Iron Man 2,” while being delightful, affable, and incredibly well-acted, still suffers from typical sequel burnout; too much content included in order to outdo the spectacle of the previous film. (more…)
C Me Dance
Film review by: Witney Seibold
I will start with a succinct line of dialogue from the TV series “King of the Hill” that pretty much sums up my own feelings on Christian rock: “You’re not making Christianity better, you’re making rock ‘n’ roll worse.” (more…)

The Human Centipede (First Sequence)
Film review by: Witney Seibold
You’ve probably heard about this little German oddity for months. Y’know, that effed-up film that has a mad scientist sewing three people together by their digestive tracts, anus-to-mouth? That’s the one. (more…)
How to Train Your Dragon
Film review by: Witney Seibold
Surprisingly charming, and unexpectedly above average, Dean DeBlois and Chris Sanders‘ “How to Train Your Dragon” is one of those family films that may actually manage to be remembered. (more…)
Harry Brown
Film review by: Witney Seibold
Here is a film about a lonely septuagenarian (Michael Caine) who is so outraged by the skyrocketing gang crime in his once-placid neighborhood, that he buys a gun and takes matters into his own hands. The presence of Caine would almost make one believe that this is a rollicking, action-packed revenge fantasy. However, those of you expecting an ass-kicking, superhero vigilante movie will be disappointed – or perhaps elated – to find that Daniel Barber‘s film “Harry Brown” is actually a gray-shaded, downbeat, and almost depressing view of a society in entropy. (more…)
The Secret In Their Eyes
Film review by: Witney Seibold
Michael Haneke‘s “The White Ribbon” was one of the best films of the last decade. Jacques Audiard‘s “Un Prophète” was a powerhouse film that could, without too much complaint, be called one of the best films of 2009. And yet these two films, when it came to the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language film, were beaten by Juan José Campanella‘s yet-unseen Argentinian film “The Secret in Their Eyes.” (more…)
The Joneses
Film review by: Witney Seibold
How’s this for a timely setup?: The Jones family is a supernaturally attractive brood who has just moved into an affluent sector of town. They have all the coolest stuff. The best cars, the best clothes, the best electronics, the best beauty products, the best food, the best golf clubs. They are all charming people, and, dammit are they ever good looking. They are the ones to keep up with. (more…)
